Donald L. Sandefur, age 72, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday, at ProMedica Monroe Skilled Nursing and Rehab.
Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. until services at 6 p.m. Monday, June 19, 2017 at Rupp Funeral Home; Rev.
Larry Detruf will officiate. In accordance with his wishes cremation will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Born October 4, 1944, he was the son of the late Doc and Ora Ruth (Stanifer) Sandefur.
Don played football while attending Jefferson High School and graduated with the class of 1963. Donald married his loving wife of 39 years, Reba J. Young, on September 23, 1978, at Faith Baptist Church in Monroe.
For forty years he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for France Stone Company, retiring in 2001. Don liked talking on his CB radio, going by the call sign "Baby Bear." He enjoyed deer hunting in Oscoda, Michigan and fishing on the Osabo and Manistee rivers. Don was a muscle car enthusiast and enjoyed working with his brother restoring their 1964 Plymouth Belvedere.
To cherish his memory, Don leaves his wife Reba; four children; Richard (Julie) Cline, Christine (nee Cline) Bryant and Brian (Paula) Sandefur, all of Monroe, and Rodney (Diane) Cline of Chesterfield, Michigan; two brothers, Glenn (Loretta) and Lloyd Sandefur; one sister, Laurie (Ike) Hall; ten grandchildren: Andrew (Tara) Cline, Derek Cline, Matthew (Jenny) Cline, Corrina (Jordan) Ord, Katie Cline, Cody Cline, Joseph Martinez, Katlin Martinez, Maggie Sandefur and Dalton Bryant; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clifton Sandefur.
