Bertha Vermell Newman, age 97, born in the Gateswood Community and a resident of Mobile, AL died Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Gulf Coast Health and Rehab. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse for Mobile Infirmary and Doctor's Hospital. She is survived by her children, Mildred Elizabeth Presley (Billy) Lynch of Norman, OK, Sandra Elaine Ard (Frank) Rackard of Mobile, AL, Wanda Ard (Randall) deButts of Montgomery, AL and Steven Earl (Jeanne) Ard of Chunchula, AL; one brother, Elver O.

Lee of Saraland, AL; two sisters, Imogene Tolbert of Pine Grove and Trez V. Rudder of Mobile, AL; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James R.

Presley; her second husband, D.R. Ard; her third husband, W.V. Newman; a son, James Durwood Presley; grandson, James E.

Lovelace, III; two great grandchildren, Bethany Lynch and Chloe Lothridge; two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2107 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Reverend Ricky White officiating.

Burial will follow at Clear Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
