16 things you should do before you pass away

No one wants to get to the end of their life and have regrets about what was missed. Fortunately, by making a list of things you want to accomplish, you can be well on your way to accomplishing the things you want so that no dream is left behind. Here are a few suggestions for your bucket list:

  1. Learn to speak a foreign language. Even if you don’t reach full fluency, learning a new language opens up a vast new world of communication possibilities. It also gives you a strong sense of accomplishment.
  2. Learn a party trick. Everyone loves the person who walks into a party with a fun trick to show off. Be that guy by learning a simple magic trick, chemistry demonstration or other show-offy display that will capture the attention of the room.
  3. Go mountain climbing. Climbers know that there are fewer things that can give you a bigger sense of accomplishment than defeating a mountain. The mountain doesn’t have to be Mount Everest for it to be meaningful. Find a mountain in your own area and go with a local climbing group.
  4. See classic movies. The most agreed-upon classics like Citizen Kane and It’s a Wonderful Life are joined by dozens of great movies that everyone should see.
  5. Read classic books. Like classic movies, avoiding classic books can become an enormous regret later. Read a few classics and open yourself up to new worlds and new literary conversations.
  6. Ride a horse. Horseback riding was once a standard mode of transportation. These days, you may have to seek out a stable that offers riding lessons in order to ride one.
  7. Start a collection. Whether it’s coins, tablecloths or ALF dolls, building a collection is a fun way to express your passion for something.
  8. Explore your country. Get to your know country by traveling across it and exploring those out-of-the-way corners that tourists don’t always see.
  9. Go to a famous sports event. Even if you aren’t a big sports fan, seeing a spectacle like the Olympics or the Super Bowl is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will yield stories you’ll love to tell in your later years.
  10. Create your own ’famous’ recipe. Following other recipes can allow you to create some great dishes, but creating your own recipe is a way to put your own stamp on the culinary world.
  11. Get involved with a charity. Many people end up regretting that they didn’t do more for others. Find a charity that you believe in and donate your time, money or both.
  12. Learn how to dance. You don’t have to become a flamenco dancer, but you should learn a few steps that will allow you to get out on the dance floor for weddings, parties and nights out with confidence.
  13. See the Aurora Borealis. The famous Northern Lights are a dizzying array of colored lights across the night sky that are constantly changing. Alaska and Scandinavia are some of the best places to see them.
  14. Visit the major monuments of the world. Monuments may be touristy attractions, but they are some of the best known of all human creations in the world. Visit places like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, the Great Wall of China and the pyramids of Giza.
  15. Learn martial arts. Around the world, martial arts are known for their contribution to endurance and self-discipline. Choose one that interests to you and start racking up those belts.
  16. Chart your genealogy. Find out where you came from and how far back you can trace each side of your family. You may be surprised at the diversity of nationalities and professions that you find.
